COSATU calls for immediate closure of Israeli embassy

Federation calls on all of parliament to act against apartheid state of Israel for horrifying war crimes

COSATU CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE CLOSURE OF THE ISRAELI EMBASSY IN SOUTH AFRICA AND A COMPREHENSIVE ARMS EMBARGO

16 November 2023

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) calls on all political parties in Parliament to act decisively against the apartheid state of Israel for the horrifying war crimes against the people of Gaza and the whole of Palestine.

All public representatives should carry forward the true mandate of the people of South Africa, who fought and overwhelmingly rejected this abhorrent system in the country.

COSATU fully support the initiative by the South African Presidency, Cyril Ramaphosa to call on the ICC to probe and prosecute Israel for war crimes. The hypocrisy and double standards of the ICC should be exposed if justice is to be realised for all people regardless of race, colour and origin.

COSATU finally call for the intensification of the Global Solidarity movement with the Palestinian people against apartheid colonialism, occupation and land dispossession.

Details of the COSATU National Day of Action and the UN Day of International Solidarity on the 29th November 2023 shall be made public soonest.

Statement issued by COSATU Head of International Department, Bongani Masuku, 16 November 2023
