COSATU FS shocked by Vavi charges

Sam Mashinini says GS was simply articulating union federation's position

COSATU Free State Statement on the alleged charges against COSATU General Secretary by the ANC NWC

COSATU Free State has learnt with shock and disbelieve that there is allegedly an intention to charge its General Secretary Comrade Vavi by the ANC NWC. We wish to put it clearly as COSATU Free State that what Comrade Vavi said is a decision of the COSATU Central Executive Committee which is comprised of 21 affiliates and 9 provinces. If there is any intention to charge Cde Vavi when he articulates decisions of the CEC, that intention is completely wrong and sets basically a very dangerous precedent to the alliance itself.

Never did it happened in the history of the alliance that when any alliance partner had taken a decision at its constitutional meeting that decision is taken as an individual decisions and as such that member is subjected to disciplinary action by the movement. Any intention to do so is not accepted and will never be accepted at all.

Cde Vavi will and must continue to put the views of the federation regardless who says what because those are our views as COSATU.

Statement issued by Sam Mashinini, COSATU Free State provincial secretary, June 2 2010
