COSATU shocked and angered by murder of Makhosonke Msibi

Federation says SAPS must find whoever is responsible for shooting of ANC councillor in Ulundi

COSATU condemns ANC councillor's murder

The Congress of South African Trade Unions is shocked and angered at the murder of Makhosonke Msibi, an African National Congress councillor, in Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal.

He was shot dead at his home on Sunday at 19:00, in full view of his family, soon after returning home from a recruitment campaign meeting in Nongoma. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene.

COSATU sends its condolences to his family and comrades at this tragic time. The federation also demands immediate action by the SAPS to find whoever is responsible for this heinous act, both the gunman himself and anyone who may have conspired with him to commit the assassination.

The use of murder, and issuing death threats, to resolve political disputes is absolutely repulsive and a grave threat to our democracy. The practice must be stamped out, and the maximum sentences imposed on all those found guilty.
