DA again snubs poor communities – ANC W Cape

Party says decision to continue with R11,4 million pavilion upgrade shows DA there to protect and serve the privileged

DA again snubs poor communities

15 November 2016

The DA-led Cape Town announced the controversial R11,4 million Strand Pavilion upgrade will go ahead in that privileged area as a contractor is appointed… And to keep some poor community members pacified the city will ensure they are employed through the EPWP on the side.

The DA-city shamelessly throws massive amounts of public money at projects in elite  areas such as the R4 million dune stabilisation at the Blouberg Beach as well as a further R20 million for the upgrade of the Sea Point Promenade, yet the poor disadvantaged communities are left languishing in the dormitory wastelands called townships – merely because the DA deems them not deserving of any better.

ANC Western Cape secretary Faiez Jacobs says: “The DA-run City of Cape Town treats poor communities with disdain and continues to protect and serve the privileged.

“Case in point: Communities of Mitchells Plain and Strandfontein have for many years pleaded for the upgrading and development of the Strandfontein Pavilion which will make this section of the False Bay coastline more functional and pleasurable for local residents and contribute towards a much needed economic spin-off with local growth or jobs.

“Alas! These communities’ pleas and petitions fell on deaf ears only to witness the Atlantic Seaboard, Blouberg and Strand thrive and they are still left with the few remnants of an Apartheid style resort.

“The ANC condemns the discriminatory practices by the DA in Cape Town, calls on those DA councillors to do right by voters, to immediately deliver to the people they purport to represent and not just be ATM councillors that collect fat salaries at the end of the month.”
