DA eThekwini meets with city water officials following fact-finding mission

17 November 2023

The Democratic Alliance in eThekwini will this morning, 10am, meet with the city’s water officials to get to the bottom of the ongoing water crisis gripping the ailing city.

This morning’s meeting follows the DA’s on-the-ground fact-finding mission with gathered explosive evidence completely turning the peddled narrative around who is to blame for the city’s persistent water supply nightmare. The DA eThekwini caucus’ engagement today with city water officials will be heavily driven by these facts.

While we note the postponement of a planned near 20-hour water shut down for maintenance, we are also aware that no reason was given for the postponement which happens take place on an important national registration weekend.

The fact of the matter is a postponement is NOT the solution, nor does it fix the problems of water supply the city has failed to address for several years. Whether now or later it’s clear that this brutal nearly 20-hour shutdown is going to happen, meaning thousands of households will be subjected to this mass inconvenience over and above the daily violation of human rights some have to endure.

The DA will be making these findings and contents of this meeting public. The residents deserve to know the truth.
