DA ready to govern KZN – Chris Pappas

Premier candidate says his party has the right manifesto and policies in place to rescue the province

DA ready to Govern KZN

8 April 2024

Today, the Democratic Alliance held a historic “Ready To Govern Summit” in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal in anticipation of forming a new provincial government after the elections on 29 May 2024.

Keynote addresses from Western Cape Premier, Alan Winde and Western Cape Health Minister, Dr. Nomafrench Mbombo, detailed what can be achieved by a DA provincial government.

We heard first hand from Premier Winde how the DA Government in the Western Cape, underpinned by DA policy and matched with a professional civil service, can drive economic growth that delivers jobs. This is highlighted by our provincial manifesto pledge to deliver 300 000 jobs to the people of KZN.

The DA in KZN also received presentations from City of Cape Town Mayoral Committee Members for Water and Sanitation and Human Settlements, Dr. Zahid Badroodien and Carl Pophaim on the work being done in Cape Town to transform the water and housing landscape.

The summit was inspired to hear how the DA-run City of Cape Town is spending R43 billion on infrastructure over the next three years to ensure water availability and how the city plans to build 15000 houses by 2025.

Councillor Badroodien and Councillor Pophaim publicly endorsed the DA in KZN’s manifesto priority to create a provincial infrastructure agency to pool resources across national and local government to drive water infrastructure development which will guarantee water in every tap.

A common theme throughout the day was how good governance leads to good service delivery, and how clean audits build confidence in the government that it can indeed deliver on its priorities.

Minister Mbombo unpacked how the DA-led Western Cape has transformed healthcare in the province and how it is entirely impossible to cut waiting times by half which the DA in KZN has promised through its provincial manifesto.

It is now absolutely clear and as supported by our Premier in the DA-led Western Cape Government and MMC’s in the City of Cape Town, that the DA has the right manifesto and policies in place to rescue KZN that will deliver growth and jobs to the people of this province.

The DA will continue to ensure that our manifesto is taken to every corner of KwaZulu-Natal so that on the 29th of May 2024, every resident in this province will know how the DA plans to rescue KZN.
