DA requests details on Motsoeneng’s status at the SABC – James Selfe

DA requests details on Motsoeneng’s status at the SABC

22 September 2016

The DA’s legal team has written to the SABC to request the details on Hlaudi Motsoeneng’s employment status at the public broadcaster, following the Supreme Court of Appeal’s rejection of his frivolous petitions for leave to appeal.

This follows reports in the media that Mr Motsoeneng continues to report for duty as an “ordinary employee”.

The DA has requested confirmation that:

- Mr Motsoeneng currently occupies another position, the relevant details of that position, and when he was appointed to that position;

- Another person has been appointed to act as COO, and the name of that person; and

- The SABC has started a legitimate process to appoint a permanent COO that is consistent with the Broadcasting Act, its Articles of Association and the Board Charter.

The SABC has been given until Monday, 26 September 2016, to respond to this request.

Hlaudi Motsoeneng and the SABC must now comply with the judgement of the Western Cape High Court. Failure to do so will leave the DA with no other option but to pursue the matter further.

Issued by James Selfe, Chairperson of the DA’s Federal Executive. 22 September 2016
