DA supports motion to debate Know Your DA campaign in Parliament

The DA will support the ANC's motion to debate the Know Your DA campaign, which was tabled in the National Assembly today.

It is clear that the ANC is panicking about our campaign which is successfully telling South Africans the untold story of the DA.

Across the country, we are breaking down the misconceptions about the DA and South Africans are happy to know the truth that we also fought against Apartheid. In fact, many are upset that they have been fed lies for so long.

This ANC motion must be viewed in this context. They are losing the debate on corruption, jobs, crime and service delivery. All they have left is the myth that they alone fought against Apartheid.

They will lose this debate as well, not only on the floor of the National Assembly, but also in the hearts and minds of South Africans.

Because the truth is that the DA's predecessors fought against Apartheid; our leaders come from a variety of different organisations, including the ANC, UDF and Black Consciousness Movement and our current leader, Helen Zille, was an anti-Apartheid activist who revealed the truth about Steve Biko's murder.

We will use this debate as an opportunity also tell the story of how Helen Suzman, who was a DA member, valiantly fought against the worst of Apartheid in Parliament, including, among others:

  • Detention without trial
  • The PASS Laws
  • Unlawful Organisations Act
  • Mixed Marriages Act
  • Immorality Act
  • Group Areas Act
  • Job Reservation

Our message to the ANC is therefore clear: let us have this debate in Parliament. South Africans deserve to know that we also fought against Apartheid - this will be just one more step in ensuring that this happens.
