DA welcomes MEC’s call to settle Jozini Council – Zwakele Mncwango

DA welcomes MEC’s call to settle Jozini Council

15 September 2016

The DA welcomes KwaZulu Natal’s Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC, Nomusa Dube-Ncube’s instruction to finalise the Jozini Counciltomorrow, Friday 16 September.

Weeks have gone by after last month’s Local Government elections and services have stalled in Jozini because ANC councillors have failed four times to attend the election of the new executive leadership.

The DA has been heeding the call and urging all parties to abide by the Municipal Structures Act by allowing the election process to take place. Service delivery must be made a priority.

Today’s directive by MEC Dube-Ncube that the Jozini council must be finalisedtomorrow should be directed towards her own ANC comrades whom have been bunking council meetings, causing an unnecessary inconvenience for everyone and totally disregarding voters.

COGTA and ANC Councillors have tried with all their might to fight with this process and the law.

We welcome the MEC’s change of heart and hope that come tomorrow, the needs of Jozini people will be put first ahead of jostling for positions.
