DA Youth Leadership assaulted at UNILIM

A meeting organised by the Democratic Alliance Students' Organisation (DASO) at the University of Limpopo (UNILIM) was violently disrupted by ANC and SASCO members last night. A number of our DASO members were assaulted and had to be taken to hospital.

DA Youth Chairperson, Yusuf Cassim, and I were assaulted as well and we have opened a criminal case at the Mankweng Police Station.

The agitators behind this violence are known to DASO members and to the security officers. The ring leaders are identified as UNILIM's SASCO-aligned SRC President Lekoko Nkadimeng and the SRC Treasurer, Treasure Mathebula.

We will be in contact with the university management to make sure that disciplinary proceedings are instituted against these thugs, in addition to the criminal charges that have been laid against them.

This is a clear sign of an organisation which is panicking. They fear that the DASO is gaining dominance on campus and they are losing the confidence of the student body. We will be returning to UNILIM soon. We will address the student body as initially planned.

We will be contesting the upcoming student elections in September in full force.

The student body of the UNILIM deserves better leadership. DASO offers an alternative solution at this campus. Clearly SASCO is afraid.
