DASO presses charges against MK members

4 March 2024

The Democratic Alliance Students Organisation (DASO) has successfully filed a criminal case against members of the Zuma-backed uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) party. This follows incidents of political violence and thuggery perpetrated by MK members against DASO activists.

DASO activists at uMgungundlogu TVET were peacefully hosting an information table, advocating for the dismissal of Minister Balde Nzimande and the reformation of NSFAS through a petition. However, this event was abruptly disrupted when non-student MK members brazenly stole petition forms and declared, "MK is the one to fire Blade!" while menacing activists.

Undeterred by these acts, DASO remains steadfast in championing student rights – NOMAKANJANI! We refuse to be intimidated by political entities engaging in disruptive behaviour and are committed to holding organisations promoting violence and thuggery accountable.

The fate of South Africa's democracy hangs in the balance. The forthcoming elections are crucial, marking the most significant since 1994. DASO urges all South African students to sign the petition calling for the removal of Blade and the reformation of NSFAS to rescue South Africa from these challenges!
