Media statement Education Department to consider recommendations of task team on NSC pass mark

The Department of Basic Education has received the report into the investigation of promotion requirements for national senior certificate (NSC) (see Sunday Times report). Basic Education Minister Mrs Angie Motshekga set up the Task Team to establish, from research and media reports, the main criticisms against the matric certificate pass requirements.

The Ministerial Task Team has submitted the report and we are studying it. The report has been shared with MECs of Education and is also available on our website.

The recommendations will be taken through the normal policy processes before a decision on implementation can be made. The Minister will make further announcements in due course.
