Statement on the attack of a Sudan ammunitions facility

The Government of South Africa condemns, in the strongest terms, the attack on the Al-Yarmouk ammunitions facility in the southern suburbs of Khartoum on 23 October 2012 by an Israeli military aircraft, which resulted in the death of two civilians, injuring several others.

The Director-General of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, Ambassador Jerry Matjila, was briefed on 1 November 2012 about the incident by Ambassador Ali Yousif Alsharif, Ambassador of the Republic of the Sudan.

The South African Government is deeply concerned by the loss of lives and property and views the incident as a violation of international law and calls for the full respect of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Sudan.

The South Africa Government also offers its condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims.
