First power from Medupi a significant milestone - ANC

Party says that once in operation new power station will go a long way towards reducing electricity supply deficit (March 2)

ANC STATEMENT ON THE PROGRESS MADE IN MEDUPI POWER STATION

2 March 2015

The African National Congress welcomes the major and bold steps Eskom has taken by the delivery of the first power from Medupi unit 6 which marks a start to an estimated 3 month period towards reaching maximum 800 Mega Watts of power output from the first of the 6 ( 5 more still to come) of Medupi power station.

This is a significant milestone marking the delivery of new Generation capacity that the country has not seen in 20 years. Once in stable operation, medupi unit 6 will go a long in reducing the supply deficit to electricity shortages which have necessitated load shedding with negative impact both socially and economically. This milestones also signify a delivery of this much needed infrastructure under the ANC government.

Focus must remain on delivering the rest of the units at Medupi, Ngula and Kusile. The ability of government to reach stages of commissioning of all these power stations will take South Africa to a new level of efficient and consistent power supply.
