Five lifts still broken at Charlotte Maxeke - Jack Bloom

DA MPL says this is despite promises new lefts would be installed by March this year

FIVE LIFTS STILL BROKEN AT JOBURG HOSPITAL

Five lifts are still broken at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

This is despite promises that they would be replaced by new lifts at the end of March this year.

I visited the hospital yesterday and found that three of the four lifts at Block 1 and two of the lifts at Block 2 were out of action.

Sick patients either wait a long time to use a working lift, or have to use the stairs.

I first raised the alarm about broken lifts at this hospital in November 2010.

Why has it taken so long to get new lifts at this major hospital?

The Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development needs a major shake-up in improving facilities at public hospitals in this province.
