Fransman and Uys dodging accountability for dodgy tenders - Ivan Meyer

DA WCape leader says former ANC govt signed 29 of 31 contracts flagged by the AG

Marius Fransman, please speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth

Both Marius Fransman en Pierre Uys took the following Oath of Office as Provincial MEC's in the cabinet of Ebrahim Rasool at the time:

"I... swear that I will be faithful to the Republic of South Africa and the Province of the Western Cape and will obey, respect and uphold the National Constitution, the Provincial Constitution and all other law of the Republic, and I undertake to hold my office as Provincial Minister of the Western Cape with honour and dignity, to be a true and faithful counsellor, not to divulge directly or indirectly any secret matter entrusted to me; and to perform the functions of my office conscientiously and to the best of my ability."

Today Marius Fransman and Pierre Uys have shown their true colours. As is typical of Zuma's ANC, the two refused to answer questions this morning in the Provincial SCOPA committee. The committee was seeking answers to the millions spent on consultants during the ANC's time in office in Western Cape. It turns out that of the 31 contracts the Western Cape government has with consultants, 29 were signed by the ANC while they were in government.

ANC leaders are yet again refusing to allow proper processes to follow through and get to the bottom of this issue. They know that their past actions are corrupt and they are now trying to hide it.

By first refusing to take the oath and then walking out of a meeting of the provincial standing committee on public accounts (SCOPA) this morning, the ANC's Marius Fransman and Pierre Uys once again proved that Zuma's ANC is unwilling to accept any accountability for corruption and maladministration.

After not showing up for a meeting scheduled earlier this year, Mr Fransman and Mr Uys were summonsed to appear before the standing committee on public accounts today to discuss an Auditor General's Report on the use of consultants dating back to 2003 during ANC rule in the Western Cape.

According to SCOPA-members, Bokkie Geyer and Mark Wiley, "the report identifies massive irregularities, gross mismanagement of public funds and scandalous governance" in the previous ANC-administration, led by Ebrahim Rasool. The DA members as well as the Chairman, the ACDP's Grant Haskin, insisted that Mr Fransman and Mr Uys take the stand today in the Provincial Parliament.

Mr Fransman and Mr Uys apparently believe that the rule of law does not apply to them.  Mr Fransman and Mr Uys have now conveniently ignored the very same oath of office which they took as former MEC's.

We call on Marius Fransman to please speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. The ANC must now take responsibility for their mismanagement and corruption under their rule. It is called accountability.

South Africans should unite on 7 May 2014 to reject the ANC's corruption and vote for more jobs under the DA.
