Further R574 000 spent on Mokonyane's official residence - Jack Bloom

DA MPL says the sum has gone towards repairing a swimming pool at Gauteng Premier's Bryanston mansion

R574 000 MORE FOR GAUTENG PREMIER'S HOUSE

An extra R574 000 has been provided to be spent on repairing a swimming pool at the Gauteng Premier's official residence in Bryanston.

This is revealed by an increase from R120 000 to R694 000 for maintenance on this residence in last week's Adjustment Budget presented by Finance MEC Mandla Nkomfe.

This is more than the R470 000 that was spent renovating and repairing this residence last year, paid to a company without going out to tender.

Spending on this house since it was bought for R11.5 million in 2004 now amounts to well over R14 million, much of which has been to suspicious companies.

This is hugely excessive. Instead of cutting back on luxuries, more is being spent on this house.

There is really no need to have an official residence as we managed to do without one for ten years, from 1994 to 2004.

A DA provincial government will sell this house, and use the proceeds to benefit the people of Gauteng.
