Gauteng DoH claims to be paying 86% of suppliers within 30 days - Jack Bloom

DA MPL says that 274 companies are still owed money for more than 6 months

GAUTENG HEALTH IMPROVES PAYMENT, BUT 274 COMPANIIES OWED FOR 6 MONTHS

The Gauteng Health Department claims that it is now paying 86% of companies within 30 days, but 274 companies are still owed money for more than 6 months.

This is revealed by Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu in a written reply to my questions in the Gauteng Legislature.

These figures show some progress in improving a dire situation where some companies were refusing to supply goods to hospitals because of non-payment.

According to Mahlangu, nine companies are suing the department in court for non-payment.

I asked for the total outstanding sum, but the department is still verifying this figure.

Mahlangu says that the department is clearing all payments that are over 90 days old by subjecting them to a pre-payment audit.

I hope that this festering sore of slow payments will be resolved soon, including the long-standing backlog.
