AfriForum supports Gordhan

The civil rights organisation, AfriForum, today added its voice to other civil organisations and leading South Africans who objected to the seemingly improper action of the Hawks to prosecute Pravin Gordhan, Minister of Finance.

The Hawks demanded today that Gordhan and former employees of the South African Revenue Service report to their offices. The Hawks are accusing Gordhan of corruption. Gordhan refused to comply with the request.

“AfriForum is of the opinion that the charges against Gordhan is unfounded. It appears that the Hawks are busy with a witch hunt against the Minister and are doing everything in their power to prevent him from doing his job. The Hawks’ action has a detrimental influence on South Africa’s image and the economy, and holds serious implications for future law and justice in the country,” says Henk Maree, AfriForum’s National Spokesperson.
