Helen Joseph's dialysis unit using dirty water - Jack Bloom

DA MPL says supplier not paid so reverse osmosis not carried out as scheduled

CONTAMINATED WATER AT HELEN JOSEPH HOSPITAL

I have it on good authority that impure water is being used at the dialysis unit at the Helen Joseph Hospital in west Johannesburg.

This is because the company that sterilises the water has not been paid.

The water is supposed to undergo reverse osmosis every three months, but this has not been done since May this year. The bacterial count in November was 6000 cfu/ml which is dangerously high as it should be below 200 cfu/ml.

About 60 kidney patients a week undergo dialysis at this unit, and their lives are at risk because of this contaminated water.

Urgent intervention is needed to rectify this dangerous situation.
