HRC undecided on when to release Moqhaka Report - DA

Lindiwe Mazibuko says Pregs Govender has suggested it'll be soon

Update on the HRC Moqhaka Report

This morning I phoned Ms Pregs Govender, Commissioner with the Human Rights Commission (HRC), to enquire as to the status of the HRC report into the open toilets in Moqhaka Municipality, in the Free State.

I asked her when the report would be released. Ms Govender would not commit to a timeframe but said the report was in the process of being ‘finalised'. She suggested that it would be released soon.

It has now been three days since Monday, when the HRC legal committee met to discuss this report. Such reports are usually released within three days of these meetings.

The Democratic Alliance believes it imperative the report be released immediately. This issue has now been under investigation for over seven months. The investigation into Makhaza took just three months.

We will wait until Monday before contacting the HRC once more, unless the report is released before then.
