Intervention affecting Limpopo service delivery - ANCWL Limpopo

Women's League says national treasury's rhetoric has shifted

ANCWL Limpopo Response to Media Statement by National Treasury

THE ANC Women's League (ANCWL) Limpopo notes the statement by the Joint National Cabinet Team on the intervention by the National Cabinet as presented by the Finance Minister, at an impromptu Press Briefing today in Polokwane.

We are very concerned about the manner in which this intervention is affecting service delivery as opposed to enhancing as initially promised. We received reports that food and textbooks were not delivered in some of our schools and hospitals. We however take solace at the assurance that both the government has indicated that all is under control, and things are increasingly being normalized.

We are also concerned about the shifting rhetoric by the National Treasury. Interestingly, the rhetoric towards the end of 2011 was that the provincial administration couldn't pay service providers because it was bankrupt. The rhetoric has now shifted. We are told that the reason for non-payment of service providers is internal sabotage to make national government look bad. Who is fooling who?

We would also like to question the manner in which the National Task Team has side-stepped internal protocol processes of the ANC led provincial government. According to ANC practice, leaders in government have a duty to communicate issues internally prior to publicising them to broader publics.

We condemn the side meetings the National Task Team is holding with some Limpopo stakeholders without the knowledge or involvement of the provincial. This undermines the spirit and character of collective leadership the ANC has always upheld.

For the benefit of all our communities, we encourage the National Task Team to work with our Provincial ANC leadership in government to improve the situation. As the ANCWL we are primarily concerned about the well-being of our communities and uninterrupted delivery of services in the entire province and nothing else.
