STATEMENT ON NUMSA GENERAL SECRETARY COMRADE IRVIN JIM'S BOGUS TWITTER ACCOUNT

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) has just discovered that a fake Twitter account has been tweeting in the name of our General Secretary, Comrade Irvin Jim.

The fake account is @IrvinJim_NUMSA.

Comrade Irvin Jim's official Twitter account is @IrvinJimSA.

Upon discovery of this fake Twitter account, we immediately submitted a request to Twitter to shut it down.

This account, @IrvinJim_NUMSA was not created by Comrade Jim or Numsa. It is a fake account, and has nothing to do with either Comrade Irvin Jim or Numsa and therefore the views expressed in it do not come from Comrade Jim or Numsa.

Comrade Irvin Jim shall take no responsibility for any postings made in his name on any other Twitter account other than the one he created with the handle @IrvinJimSA.

We have, accordingly, instructed our IT Department to report this fake account to the South African Police Service Cyber Crime unit, for investigations and criminal prosecution, once the creator of this account is caught.
