Majola must resign - DA

Willem Faber says Nicholson report makes position of Cricket CEO untenable

CSA bonus scandal: DA calls for Majola's immediate resignation

According to the report released today by retired Judge Chris Nicholson, who headed an investigation into the Cricket SA bonus scandal, there was "overwhelming evidence" that Cricket SA CEO Gerald Majola failed to disclose bonuses paid to him and other staff members.

Mr Majola was found to have breached the Companies Act at least three times.

It is untenable for Mr Majola to continue in his position. He must resign immediately or, failing that, the CSA board should suspend him until his fate can be decided in a formal disciplinary hearing.

Sport has a crucial role to play in our country as a tool for nation building and creating opportunities for children in impoverished communities. There is certainly no place in South African sport for those who wish to inappropriately enrich themselves at the public's expense.
