Max Sisulu establishes ad hoc committee to investigate Nkandla - Lindiwe Mazibuko

DA PL says this is the first step in the impeachment proceedings against President Jacob Zuma

Speaker establishes special ad hoc committee to investigate Nkandla following DA request

The DA welcomes the decision by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Max Sisulu, to establish an ad hoc committee to investigate the Nkandla scandal. We believe this to be the first step in the impeachment proceedings against President Jacob Zuma.

This follows my request to the Speaker on 20 March 2014 to form such a committee, given the damning findings against President Zuma contained in the Public Protector's report.

This bold move by the Speaker is a victory for Parliament, the constitution and accountability.

The ad hoc committee will have to report back to Parliament by the 30th April 2014 and therefore before the elections. This is something which the DA welcomes in particular - as South Africans deserve answers before they vote on 7th May.

The DA will provide a full response to this major announcement at a press briefing tomorrow morning.

The details for this press briefing are as follows:

Date: Thursday, 10 April 2014

Time: 10h30

Venue: M314, Marks Building, Parliament

The DA looks forward to playing our part in making sure that Parliament flexes its muscle in holding all those responsible - including President Zuma accountable.
