Minister Motshekga means business – Gavin Davis

DA says swift action must be taken against those found guilty of selling teaching posts

DA welcomes Motshekga’s commitment to deal with corrupt SADTU officials

17 December 2015

The DA welcomes Minister Motshekga's commitment to take decisive action against SADTU-aligned officials implicated in the job-for-cash scandal.

In her announcement Minister Motshekga today committed to:

- Handing all evidence contained in the Task Team's interim report over to the South African Police Service and National Prosecuting Authority for criminal prosecution; and

- Freezing all teacher and principal appointments until she has met with all MECs of Education early in the new year.

Today's announcement signals that Minister Motshekga means business. She now needs to commit to very clear time frames for the release of the final report.

It is important that whistle-blowers and other innocent parties are protected, but it is equally essential that the final report is released speedily so that the jobs-for-cash scandal is dealt with transparently.

We must be absolutely certain that those found guilty of selling teaching posts are held to account, without fear or favour.
