Ministry of Communications issues, then retracts, statement on Manyi

Statement distancing itself from former advisor's remarks on SABC issued without the authorisation of Faith Muthambi

Ministry of Communications distance itself from Mr Manyi's comments on Hlaudi Motsoeneng

6 October 2016

The Ministry of Communications would like to distance itself from comments made by Mr Mzwanele Manyi saying that 'Mr Hlaudi Motsoeneng was on the right side of the Employment Equity Act with regards to his qualifications'.

Furthermore, the Ministry wishes to state that Mr Manyi is no longer an advisor to the Minister of Communications and therefore does not speak on behalf of the Ministry.

The Ministry also wants to add that it plays no role in the appointment of managers at the SABC.

These appointments follow the normal recruitment processes as prescribed within the policy of the public broadcaster.

The Ministry of Communications is invited by the Board to participate in the appointment of the Group Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer and the Chief Operating Officer as per the SABC memorandum of incorporation.

Update:

Withdrawal of the Statement issued earlier

The ministry of communications will like to withdraw, and retract the statement that was issued earlier regarding Mr Mzwanele Manyi. The statement was issued without the authorisation of the Minister.

Apologies for inconvenience and parties concern.
