Mmemezi's dodgy spending patterns the last straw - Jack Bloom

DA MPL calls on Gauteng Premier to fire local govt and housing MEC

PREMIER MUST FIRE MMEMEZI

Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane must fire Local Government and Housing MEC Humphrey Mmemezi following revelations that he has grossly abused his official credit card (see Pretoria News report).

This includes the purchase of a R10 000 painting in a most irregular manner through a McDonald's branch in Silverton, Pretoria.

He has also spent almost R60 000 buying suits, shoes and other clothing from upmarket shops on a trip to India, exceeding his R50 000 a month official limit.

Other dubious spending includes huge amounts buying groceries and restaurant meals.

Mmemezi has been involved in other controversies, including his official vehicle injuring teenager Thomas Ferreira while driving with Blue Lights, and he damaged another vehicle a week later in KwaZulu Natal which insurance has reportedly refused to pay for.

He has delayed answering questions from DA MPL Fred Nel on his credit card spending, and will face more questions in the Legislature on Tuesday next week.

His contemptuous behaviour should not be allowed to continue. A full investigation is needed so that he is held to account for all misspending and contravention of rules.

Mokonyane must put aside internal ANC politics and fire him in the interests of good governance.
