Motsoeneng pays millions to 'thank himself' – Phumzile Van Damme

DA says cash-strapped SABC is wasting money on a music concert despite projecting a loss of R1 billion

SABC would be better off without Motsoeneng’s lunacy

6 September 2016

The cash strapped SABC is spending millions for a “Thank you SABC” music concert at Orlando Stadium on the 10 September 2016.

SABC COO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, has deemed it fit to “thank himself” for pushing for 90% local content across the SABC’s channels despite the public broadcaster projecting to run at a loss of R1 billion. This is in fact absurd and diametrically at odds with sound financial management.

Communications Minister, Faith Muthambi, should put an end to this wasteful expenditure at the expense of quality programming by making sure that this ludicrous concert does not go ahead.

The DA looks forward to the release of the SABC’s annual report in the next month, it is quite clear that the SABC will make significant losses. We intend to hold those responsible accountable, and will fight to see a “farewell” for Motsoeneng.

The DA will continue to hold those at the helm of the SABC’s dysfunction accountable. The Public Broadcaster’s capture by self-glorifying cronies of President Zuma continues to distract from its core business. We will ensure that we fight for the restoration of stability at the SABC.
