Mxolisi Nxasana did not learn about enquiry through the media - The Presidency

Mac Maharaj says NDPP's claims to the contrary, as reported in the Sunday Times, are not correct (July 6)

Presidency corrects media report on inquiry into the National Director of Public Prosecutions

06 Jul 2014

The Presidency has noted a report in the Sunday Times of today, 6 July 2014, quoting the National Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr Mxolisi Nxasana as saying he heard from the media for the first time about the inquiry on his fitness to hold office.

This is not true. A letter from President Jacob Zuma to Mr Nxasana was sent on Friday evening, 4 July 2014 and he confirmed receipt thereof.

In addition, yesterday, Saturday 5 July, Mr Nxasana was informed telephonically that the Presidency would issue a statement about the President's decision.

It is regrettable that the Sunday Times published this allegation as fact without checking with the Presidency to hear the other side.

Further details regarding the establishment of the enquiry will be communicated to the public as soon as it becomes available.
