Nkandla safety concerns a smokescreen for self-enrichment - FF+

Pieter Groenewald says South Africa already has a state guesthouse where foreign visitors can be housed

SAFEGUARDING OF NKANDLA IS A SMOKESCREEN FOR SELF-ENRICHMENT

"The amount of R203 million which will apparently be used to put security measures in place at the private residence of President Jacob Zuma at Nkandla, is excessive. It is possible to put effective security measures in place for far less than the aforementioned amount," Mr. Pieter Groenewald (MP), the FF Plus' chief spokesperson on Public Works said.

"The presidency's justification of the exorbitant amount to put security measures in place for in case heads of state come to visit Zuma in South Africa is nothing other than a smokescreen to enrich president Zuma by improving his private property. Apart from two presidential residences - one in Pretoria and one in Cape Town, South Africa also has a state guest house where heads of state have always in the past been housed.

There is therefore more than enough state buildings with sufficient security measures in place, which makes the "improvements" of security measures at the president's private residence for this purpose, unnecessary. If president Zuma Is not satisfied with less and effective security measures, he earns a big enough salary to pay for these unnecessary expenses himself," Groenewald said.
