No plot to assassinate Mangosuthu Buthelezi - ANC KZN

PEC says IFP trying to solicit sympathy from public by making unfounded allegations

THE ANC PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE STATEMENT

The Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of the African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal held its meeting over the weekend to assess the state of the organisation and the progress it has made since our previous provincial executive committee meeting.

On IFP assassination plot allegations

The PEC rejects in the strongest terms the insinuation that the ANC is involved in a plot to assassinate the IFP President, Mangosuthu Buthelezi. The PEC wants to state categorically clear that the accusations are groundless and are aimed at deliberately attracting public attention.

The allegations are baseless and mind-boggling and the PEC urges the IFP leadership to report the matter to the relevant authorities for proper investigation.

The ANC wants to warn the IFP leaders to desist from making unfounded allegations and reckless statements in this current volatile environment because it might exacerbate the emerging conflicts in the province.

We are convinced that the IFP wants to solicit sympathy from the general public through unfounded allegations.

The allegations were first made by Buthelezi in the National Assembly and the IFP leader in the KwaZulu-Natal legislature, Blessed Gwala continues to make the allegations in the provincial legislature.

The IFP leader also raised the matter again last week with a sole intention of shifting the focus away from the current politically related killings in the KwaMashu Hostel and T-section. Gwala's utterances did not only mislead the public but also undermined King Goodwill Zwelithini's attempts to bring peace.

The PEC calls on all political leaders to work together to end political killings and interparty-related-violence in the province. We condemn war talks because they can fuel violence.

On the Province readiness for the National Conference.

The PEC received a comprehensive report on the ANC's readiness for the National Conference in Mangaung. The PEC is satisfied with the progress that has been made so far in terms of branch general meetings. The PEC emphasised the importance of thorough policy discussions before and during the conference.

As part of the preparations for the conference, the ANC has organised unmediated forums and summits to empower delegates.
