NUMSA awaiting a response from SEIFSA

Union says strike in metals industry continues, pending feedback from employers

 NUMSA AWAITS RESPONSE FROM SEIFSA

Numsa's General Secretary Irvin Jim led the Numsa Engineering Bargaining team in talks with Steel and Engineering Industry Federation of SA (Seifsa) representatives in Johannesburg, earlier today Monday 14th July 2014.

Numsa presented the position of its National Executive Committee (NEC) to the employers. In essence Seifsa's final offer was rejected by the Numsa NEC.

Seifsa responded by saying that the mandate from their Council was that should Numsa not accept the settlement offer of 08 July 2014, then the offer is withdrawn. After Seifsa's further discussions with Numsa in today's meeting on the issues of wages; section 37 and labour broking, they made an undertaking to go back to their council for a mandate.

Numsa await the feedback from Seifsa representative. Meanwhile the Numsa strike in the engineering industry continues indefinitely.

Lastly, our National Strike Committee (NSC) will be convened on Tuesday 15th July 2014, to consider a detailed Programme of Action (PoA) to intensify the strike action.
