Office of the Chief Whip says it has recommended Cedric Frolick as chairperson

ANC SUBMIT NAMES FOR AD HOC COMMITTEE & POWERS & PRIVILEGES COMMITEE

The Office of the ANC Chief Whip has submitted to the Speaker of the National Assembly a list of its Members of Parliament who will represent the organisation in the Parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee established to consider the President's report on security upgrades at his Nkandla private residence.

On Tuesday the National Assembly passed a resolution to establish the Ad Hoc Committee constituted of 11 members chosen from ANC (6), DA (2), EFF (1) and other parties 2. The committee is scheduled to report back to the sitting of the House no later than 24 October 2014

The list we have recommended to the Speaker is composed of very capable individuals with parliamentary experience, political expertise and legal know-how necessary to the issue the Ad Hoc Committee is mandated to consider.

The Office of the ANC Chief Whip is confident that the following capable individuals will assist the Ad Hoc Committee and Parliament to achieve its objectives:

1. Cedric Frolick (House Chairperson for Committees, Oversight and ICT)

2. Mathole Motshekga (Chaiperson for justice & correctional service committee)

3. Francois Beukman (chairperson for police committee)

4. Doris Dlakude (ANC Deputy Chief Whip)

5. Mmamoloko Kubayi (chairperson for telecommunications and postal services committee)

6. Beatrice Ngcobo (chairperson for tourism committee)

7. Lindiwe Maseko (alternate member, whip for science & technology committee)

We have recommended Cde Cedric Frolick for appointment as Chairperson of the Ad Hoc Committee.

The Office of the Chief Whip has also submitted to the Speaker's Office a list of ANC MPs to serve on the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Committee. The Committee, whose function is to consider any matter referred to it by the Speaker relating to the contempt of Parliament or misconduct by a member, is established in terms of Section 12 of the Powers, Privileges & Immunities of Parliament & Provincial Legislatures Act of 2004. It is one of the permanent committees of Parliament established in line with the Rule of the National Assembly.

The following ANC MPs have been deployed to serve in the committee:

1. Lemius Mashile (chairperson of home affairs committee)

2. Richard Mdakane (chairperson for cooperative governance and traditional affairs committee)

3. Charles Nqakula (members of standing committee on intelligence)

4. Joyce Moloi-Moropa (chairperson for communications committee)

5. Juli Killian (member of higher education committee)

6. Moremadi Mothapo (member of justice & correctional services committee)

7. Zet Luzipho (alternate member, chairperson for mineral resources committee)

We have recommended Cde Lemius Mashile for appointment as committee chairperson.
