Presidency submits additional date for President to answer questions in Parliament

The Presidency has submitted an additional date to the Office of the Speaker for the President to answer oral questions in the National Assembly.

During question time today, 11 March 2015, Members of Parliament asked the Speaker to obtain an additional date for President Jacob Zuma to answer oral questions in the National Assembly.

The Presidency has subsequently submitted the additional date of 3 November 2015 to the Office of the Speaker.

The Presidency had earlier provided the following dates to the Office of the Speaker at one session per quarter:

18 June 2015

6 August 2015

19 November 2015

In addition, the President will also respond to questions in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on the 14th of May 2015.

The President responds to written questions from Members of Parliament as and when they are submitted to him during the year.

Other formal attendance in Parliament includes the Presidency Budget vote in the National Assembly and the delivery of the annual address to the NCOP.

This week on Tuesday 10 March 2015 the President concluded his responsibilities in the National House of Traditional Leaders when he attended a debate on the opening address he had delivered last week on 5 March 2015.

The President is not a Member of Parliament. He attends sessions to perform certain tasks or as a guest during special events such as the delivery of the Budget Speech by the Minister of Finance or to participate in special debates.
