Prince Mokotedi has no security clearance - Kate Lorimer

DA MPL says Gauteng Hawks head appears to have two court judgements against him for outstanding debt

Gauteng Hawks head Mokotedi without security clearance?

3 July 2016

Head of Gauteng Hawks, Prince Mokotedi should be removed from his position immediately.

On 3 February this year, Mokotedi was appointed as head of the Hawks in Gauteng. Our information indicates that he still has no security clearance, and in my opinion he should not have.

According to documents in our possession it seems that he has two court judgements against him for outstanding debt. Both judgements were made in December 2015.

The first in favour of Investec for the amounts of R1,002 million for a bond and R100 480 for a credit card, as well as one in favour of ABSA for R9 559 on a credit card.

With these judgements against him he would never qualify for security clearance as they would, one assumes, make him a high risk for future corrupt or criminal activity.

At the time of his appointment, the Hawks’ Hangwani Mulaudzi was reported to have said: "Mokotedi was appointed after a formal application and interview process. We were looking for a person who does not have a criminal record, a person who has got integrity and that is why we felt that he was the right person for the job."

Did Mokotedi declare these civil judgements at the time of his appointment? If he did, why was he still appointed to the position of Gauteng Hawks Head? If he did not declare them, will he now be removed from his position?

Either way, Mokotedi does not seem to be a man of integrity and should not be in a position of responsibility. He must not be allowed to continue as Head of the Hawks without security clearance nearly five months after his appointment.

Police Minister Nathi Nhleko must stop dragging his heels, do his job and terminate Mokotedi. If he doesn’t, we should perhaps assume he is just protecting Mokotedi (who as Mokotedi states on his twitter feed) is 100% JZ.
