‪TLAKULA NOT FIT FOR OFFICE AND MUST BE IMMEDIATELY SUSPENDED

The findings of the independent forensic investigation, commissioned by National Treasury from PriceWaterhouseCoopersInc into alleged irregularities involving the procurement of the Electoral Commissions Riverside Office Park, is damning (see M&G Online report).

Advocate Pansy Tlakula remained defiant, and still is, throughout the whole debacle. She publicly denied the allegations; she challenged the Public Protector's findings and defied Parliament by refusing to cooperate with the forensic audit.

The audit unequivocally states that Advocate Tlakula broke every rule in the book and violated the trust placed in her (see here - PDF). It is clear from the report summary that most, if not all, the blame is to be laid at her door.

Adv Tlakula was not fit for the office of Chief Electoral Officer and she certainly is not fit to lead the Electoral Commission.

The United Democratic Movement demands that Adv Tlakula be suspended immediately and that the police goes to work.

The Electoral Commission must, once elections are concluded, immediately cancel this contract.
