Rattled Mmusi Maimane flip-flops on the death penalty - Wilmot James

DA leadership candidate says his rival has yet to publicly disclose who is funding his campaign

Mmusi Maimane is rattled

With three days to go before the election, Mmusi Maimane seems to be rattled.

Under major pressure after losing the leadership debate on Kyknet, Mmusi Maimane appears to have lost his nerve and turned nasty.

Yesterday, Mmusi Maimane abandoned his positive campaign by releasing an attack piece, through his proxy Geordin Hill Lewis, taking issue with my view that the DA must be an alternative to the ANC, not an alternate ANC.

This, it turns out, was top-cover for Mmuis Maimane's flip-flop on his call for a referendum on the death penalty.

Mmusi Maimane effectively conceded he dropped the ball when he called for a referendum on the death penalty by telling News24 that:

"I would stand up straight and say I don’t support a referendum on the death penalty."

Meanwhile, Mmusi Maimane and his team are holding out and have still not publicly named the donors supporting the "Maimane for Leader" campaign.

With three days to go, I will not be distracted and will continue to work hard to share my positive vision for the future of our party with the delegates attending the DA's Federal Congress on 09/10 May 2015.
