Riah Phiyega suspended on full pay - The Presidency

This is pending recommendations of the Board of Inquiry into SAPS national commissioner's fitness to hold office

President Zuma suspends General Phiyega

14 October 2015

President Jacob Zuma has considered the response from the National Police Commissioner, General Victoria Phiyega, received on 28 September 2015, in which she made representations to him as to why the President should not exercise the power conferred upon him under section 8(3)(a) of the South African Police Service Act, 1995, to suspend her pending the outcome of the Board of Inquiry which the President has established.

In terms of section 8(3)(a) of the South African Police Service Act, 1995, the President has suspended General Phiyega as National Commissioner of the South African Police Service with immediate effect and on full pay.

The suspension is to endure pending any decision that is made following upon the recommendations of the Board of Inquiry into allegations of misconduct, her fitness to hold office and her capacity to execute official duties efficiently.
