Shakes Mashaba the right choice as Bafana Bafana coach - Solly Malatsi

DA MP says coach has extensive experience in local football and a record of success with SA's national youth teams

DA welcomes appointment of Shakes Mashaba

26 July 2014

The DA welcomes the appointment of Ephraim 'Shakes' Mashaba as the new coach of Bafana Bafana and wish him well for his tenure.

Coach Mashaba's extensive experience in local football and success with South Africa's national youth teams is exactly what Bafana Bafana needs to reclaim their spot amongst the continent's football giants.

His previous tenure with the senior national team remains the most successful tenure by any Bafana Bafana coach.

He will need the full support of all football authorities in the country to achieve, and possibly exceed, the same success with Bafana Bafana in his second stint.

The DA appeals to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and SAFA to overcome their past differences to establish a harmonious partnership that will help rebuild Bafana Bafana into a winning team that we can all be proud of.

This partnership should prioritise compatibility between PSL fixtures and Bafana Bafana matches to ensure that players who have been selected for national duty are released on time to allow the team to have the best available players for all matches.

We hope that Coach Mashaba's tenure will herald a new era of success for Bafana Bafana.

Statement issued by Solly Malatsi, DA Shadow Minister of Sports and Recreation, July 27 2014
