Statement by Helen Zille on Rasool's Delft threat

Statement issued by Democratic Alliance February 22 2008

Rasool's threat to sue the DA is empty

Premier Ebrahim Rasool's threat to sue the Democratic Alliance for allegedly encouraging land invasions in Delft is just posturing.

It is bizarre that a Premier seeks to sue a political party over the alleged actions of one its representatives. Rasool knows full well that the DA has never condoned illegal land invasions. This is a point that I have made repeatedly.

In fact, Provincial Minister of Local Government and Housing Richard Dyanti, has even thanked the DA for sending a clear message that "anarchy, lawlessness and deliberate chaos and community incitement will not be tolerated."

Councillor Frank Martin's alleged misconduct is currently being investigated by the Speaker of the City of Cape Town and the police. These processes will require Councillor Martin to face the consequences of any alleged improper conduct.
