Sustainable social security system will bring stability to labour market - BUSA

Organisation welcomes release of CSS Discussion Paper, says current design of system is fragmented

BUSA Press Statement on the release of the CSS Discussion Paper

30 November 2016

BUSA welcomes the release of the Comprehensive Social Security Discussion Paper by government at Nedlac. BUSA believes that a comprehensive, sustainable social security system, if well designed, will bring greater stability to the labour market and higher levels of social inclusion – thereby serving as an instrument to reduce poverty and inequality.

The current design of the social security system is fragmented and administered by multiple Ministries, resulting in  inefficiencies and inaccessibility to the most vulnerable. BUSA views the release of the Discussion Paper as an opportunity to address some of these concerns. Through NEDLAC, business is committed to being a key stakeholder in the development of a Comprehensive Social Security system that can progressively realise the constitutional right to social security and protection in a manner that is affordable and fit-for-purpose.
