The new DA leadership - Helen Zille

Mmusi Maimane, Anchen Dreyer and Makashule Gana elected Deputy Federal Chairpersons

New leadership team will work for the realignment of politics

On behalf of the Democratic Alliance, I am delighted today to present the newly-elected DA Leaders elected at the Federal Congress this weekend.

They are:

Federal Chairperson:

  • Wilmot James

Deputy Federal Chairpersons:

  • Mmusi Maimane
  • Anchen Dreyer
  • Makashule Gana

This team's core focus will be on delivering opportunities for all South Africans, particularly those who remain disadvantaged by our divided past. Redress, reconciliation, delivery and diversity will underpin our political programme.

The realignment of politics remains firmly on the agenda. I have no doubt that, when we convene our next Federal Congress three years from now, the political landscape of South Africa will be fundamentally altered. The DA will form the nucleus of a new political force in our country.

This team was not appointed. Each leader was elected in a vigorous, free and fair democratic process at our Congress, the highest decision-making body of our party. It is a capable and diverse team with an appropriate ‘generational mix'.

I am very excited at what we can achieve together.
