UP must intensify security after EFF threats – AfriForum Youth

Protesters again threaten to disrupt campus if Afrikaans is not removed, says organisation

AfriForum Youth demands that UP intensifies security after more EFF threats

6 May 2016

AfriForum Youth requested the University of Pretoria in writing today to intensify security on campus and to once again put in place measures to ensure students’ safety. This follows after various media reported that the EFF and #FeesMustFall protestors apparently once again threatened to disrupt the campus if Afrikaans is not removed as language of instruction.

“UP should ensure that an effective plan is in place to prevent any form of disruption and violence on campus,” said Morné Mostert, AfriForum Youth’s National Project Coordinator.

The youth organisation is also of the opinion that the current members of the UP Student Representative Council (SRC) is unfit to serve on this council. This follows after the SRC failed to take control of a meeting about the Council’s budget after members of the EFF and SASCO had disrupted the meeting. AfriForum Youth also attended the meeting.
