eNCA and e.tv strongly deny claims that staff are not allowed to join Unions

eMedia Investments (owner of e.tv and eNCA) strongly denies false claims that staff are being prevented from joining a trade union. These false allegations have been published by a number of media outlets and were the subject of an ANC Press Statement released on Wednesday, 24 February 2016.

eMedia Investments’ Group Chief Operating Officer Mark Rosin says, “Staff are allowed to join a trade union of their choice. Claims to the contrary are false and malicious.

“Freedom of association is legally enshrined by the Labour Relations Act. eMedia Investments has always proudly respected and observed the law; the Labour Relations Act and the Constitution, and will continue to do so.”

eNCA also denies claims that an employee was dismissed for attempting to establish a union. The employee was dismissed after being found guilty of misconduct, defamation and publishing untruths, following a disciplinary hearing.

Employees were informed at staff meetings in the last quarter of 2015, and as recently as Monday, that they are free to join a trade union.
