We just missed victory in Cederberg - ANC WCape

Party pipped to the post by DA candidate by a mere 16 votes

A special thank you to all who voted for the ANC

The Western Cape ANC thanks all voters for the trust they have put in the ANC in the by-election in Ward 4 of the Cederberg (mostly Elands Bay and Graafwater) municipality yesterday.

The ANC narrowly lost the by-election by a mere sixteen votes as the DA retained this ward with a reduced majority. The ANC made good strides and we are proud of the work that had been done.

The ANC controls the municipality and this by-election proved that there is still resilience and growth potential for the ANC.

The DA received 1 149, the ANC 1 133 and the PAC 56 votes.

There is however matters of concern.  Many workers were not released to vote or too late to vote. Especially in one voting station farmworkers were not assisted or transported as usual to make it to the polls. Only 51 of the 179 voters turned up there.

The boundaries of the ward need to be revisited and realigned in the next demarcation period. More than forty voters staying in Citrusdal could not travel to Graafwater's voting station.
