What did the Guptas get from Collen Maine? - Yusuf Cassim

DASO leader questions ANCYL leader's motives in defending the controversial family

Maine, what did the Guptas get in exchange for housing assistance?

It has become obvious that the ANC Youth Legaue (ANCYL) has now also become just another captured ANC structure used to defend President Jacob Zuma and the Gupta family.

This comes after reports revealed that the Gupta family possibly lent a big helping hand in securing ANCYL leader Collen Maine’s loan for his East Pretoria home worth R5.7 million. He must come out and tell the nation what the Gupta's got in return for this help.

Maine has previously said that an attack on Guptas is an attack on the ANC. It is increasingly clear why. Not even those with the governing party can discern between an ANC member and a Gupta.

Of equal concern recent comments by Maine threatening violence against those who criticise President Zuma and the ANC. Additionally referring to the student movement as “treasonous” in the past highlights his disdain for our constitutional democracy.

Both these reckless utterances demonstrate that he is out of touch with the plight of the youth and South Africans alike. Mr Maine and the ANCYL represent clearly just how much the ANC has changed. This is not the party of Nelson Mandela. It is now a party that puts Zuma’s friends first and the people last. The ANCYL has become an irrelevant organisation reduced to being Zuma's defenders and has become detached from the many young South Africans who they are meant to serve.

On 03 August South Africans have an opportunity to vote for a DA that will put the youth of South Africa first but stopping corruption and creating jobs for the jobless youth. This is the change that will move South Africa forward again.
