Why not use Rondebosch Common for housing? - SACP WCape

Party dismisses Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille's call for release of Youngfield and Wingfield land

De Lille's trivial call on land rejected

The South African Communist Party in the Western Cape rejects calls made by the Mayor of Cape Town, Patricia De Lille, for the release of land situated at Youngfield and Wingfield Military bases.

As the SACP we view these calls as nothing but lame duck excuse and escapist tactic. Propelled by panic and the dictates of the Premier, the Democratic Alliance led City is in a state of political anxiety, attempting to recover from a failed merger and other recent ideological bungles and infighting, the City is now desperate to salvage a sinking ship.

Patricia De Lille, a political and ideological chameleon, has once again dismissed demands to release provincial land by passing the buck and demanding that National Government release land.

This contradictory call comes after the successful mass-based march of the ANC, Alliance and progressive forces to both the offices of Helen Zille and De Lillie. Furthermore calls for the release of these two pieces of the land that belong to Military are really an attempt to find excuses to justify the collapse of the Human Settlement departments in both the City and Provincial government.

As the SACP we have been asking De Lille and Zille to conduct a thorough Provincial land audit so that it can be known as to who holds available land in the Province.

There is no amount of excuses that can justify the failure of the DA in building houses for the working class as there has never been willingness and a commitment to build houses.

Contrary to these calls the City of Cape Town and Provincial government have been defending Rondebosch common which is a piece of land that serves no purpose other than a playground for minority elitists, including Zille and her cronies. Ironically the city demands a plot of land that has been used for Military training and can be converted to other modes of developing the working class.
