Will ANC disrupt DA campaigning for next 78 days? - Ghaleb Cachalia

DA Mayoral Candidate for Ekhurhuleni says they had to call Metro Police to assist

Will the ANC spend the next 78 days disrupting DA campaigning?

17 May 2016

After ANC members disrupted my public meeting outside the Katlehong Tamaho Clinic yesterday, I was today again prevented by ANC members in Actonville to continue with my listening tour in Ekurhuleni.

On Sunday evening a resident of the council owned Karachi Court Flats in Actonville lost his life after the wall he leant on collapsed and he fell off the balcony on the fifth floor. I was sharing my condolences with the community and discussing the action the DA is taking in this regard, when ANC members started shouting that we are in ANC territory and we are not allowed to have our meeting here.  Some of our members were also physically pushed around.

As a result we had to contact the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department to assist us.

It is of great concern that some of the ANC members who came to disrupt our meeting were employees of the Ekurhuleni Metro who were wearing their metro overalls.

Will the ANC stick to the electoral code of conduct they signed yesterday? Or will they be spending the next 78 days disrupting DA campaigning? Are they perhaps scared of losing?

We will not be deterred by these illegal actions and will by close of business today write to the ANC Provincial Chairperson, Paul Mashatile, requesting an explanation and investigation into the conduct of his members.
