Will the ANC oppose R1.29 billion of wasteful expenditure today in Parliament?

The Standing Committee on Appropriations will have to decide how to deal with R1.29 billion of wasteful expenditure buried in the Adjustments Appropriation Bill [B16-2016] when it meets today in Parliament.

The R1.29 billion worth of wasteful expenditure, to be dealt with by the Standing Committee on Appropriations today, includes:
- two new Toyota Fortuners for the Minister of Trade and Industry, Rob Davies, valued at R623 788.94 and R625 718.94 respectively;
- two new BMW-5 Series Sedans for the Minister of Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, valued at R740 299.99 and R742 425.92 respectively;
- a new BMW X5 for the Minister of Communications, Faith Mthambi, valued at R1.065 million;
- a new Ford Everest for the Minister of Public Service and Administration, Ngoako Ramatlhodi, valued at R714 500;
- a new Audi Q7 3.0 TDI Quatrro for the Deputy-Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Buti Manamela, at the cost of approximately R971 423,76; and
- a new Audi A8 and Audi A7 for the Deputy-Minister of Public Service and Administration, Ayanda Dlodlo, valued at R750 000 and 735 000 respectively.

It also includes a virement of R200 000 from the Department of Trade and Industry to an organisation called “Progressive Youth in Business”, which looks suspiciously like an ANC front-organisation. The “Progressive Youth In Business” is hosted in the ANC Treasurer-General, Zweli Mkhize’s, office at Luthuli House.

We hope ANC members of the Standing Committee on Appropriations will do the right thing and vote to oppose the R1.29 billion in wasteful expenditure buried in the Adjustments Appropriation Bill [B16-2016] today in Parliament.
